Dr. Balbuena justifies alleged high tuition fee

In response to the request of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of the Province of Zamboanga del Norte, Dr. edgar S. Balbuena justified the allegations on high tuition fee of the institution during the Legislative Inquiry held at SP Session Hall, Capitol, Dipolog City on June 20, 2014.
Among these reasons and justifications said by the president himself were as follows:  Firstly, to regulate quality education, Jose Rizal Memorial State University   submitted its programs to accreditation before the Accrediting Agency for Chartered Colleges and Universities of the Philippines (AACUP). This is expensive yet the university has not received any funding/subsidy from the national government for this purpose.

Secondly, because of the influx of students in JRMSU, the number of  instructors along with their extra loads  can no longer suffice the need. And because there are no additional plantilla items for teaching positions, the university resorted to hiring visiting lecturers/part-time instructors/professors. This made the system incurred Php 5, 993, 491.34 besides faculty overload wages of  Php 9, 404, 043. 95.

Lastly, for JRMSU’s standardization of its services and  products (graduates) across ASEAN countries, it is now working on its preparation for the ASEAN 2015 integration. And this requires the upgrading of facilities and equipment.

With these justifications being publicized, the university hopes to resolve this controversy and bring a clearer and more transparent view of the university’s financial status.
